The third edition of the Media Facade Academy at Etopia Center for Art and Media is joined by smARTplaces partners Azkuna Zentroa and the Dortmunder U. Three chosen artists from the academy will create a video piece for the Sun Screen at Azkuna Zentroa, which will be on loop on the 13th of September.
Azkuna Zentroa, in collaboration with Etopia, will select three artists among the residents of the Media Facade Academy. This selection will be made through an open call in which the participants of the Academy in Zaragoza will present their work before the 15th of June 2018. The chosen ones will create a specific video piece for the screen of the Sun of Azkuna Zentroa, a 15 minutes duration. They will also enjoy a residence in Azkuna Zentroa from 10 to 14 October, which will culminate with a presentation of their work on the sun screen and a meeting led by the curator Jaime de los Ríos.
The Sun Screen, chosen by the architect Philippe Starck as a symbol of home-warmth, will host the works created by the three residents of the Media Art field, following the predecessor artists who also made artistic interventions in that same medium: From international artists such as Itziar Barrio and Antoni Miralda, to video creators such as Stéphane Abboud with his project ‘L’autre’, as well as local artists Patxi Araujo or César Escudero. The film ‘The Kid’, by the great Charles Chaplin, was also projected on the screen of the sun, which made us laugh, and even cry, with the live soundtrack of the hand of the pianist Pablo Llamas.
Next interventions will be the result of the joined activity Media Facade Academy in collaboration with Etopia, leading the project, and Dortmund U on the 13th of September on loop in Azkuna Zentroa’s Sun screen.
