WIELS is an international laboratory for the creation and diffusion of contemporary art. While its focusing is on the visual arts, it pays particular attention to the crossings and interactions with other disciplines. WIELS presents temporary exhibitions by national and international artists, both emerging and more established. Beyond that, WIELS spearheads innumerable educational and social-artistic initiatives.
In becoming a smARTplace, WIELS aims to develop new approaches to audience development and visitors’ experience for the digital age. Located in one of the rare examples of modernist industrial architecture in Brussels and former brewery, WIELS wants to promote, communicate and enhance its numerous assets in new innovative ways for local, international and digital audiences. Starting with its major anniversary exhibition ‘The Absent Museum’ in April 2017, WIELS intents to embrace new technologies in their communication strategies and share their knowledge and experience with the international smARTplaces network.
