14.02.2018 - 14.02.2018
smARTplaces opens its 2018 activities with #TheWorkofArt. Live Dialogues. An online program targeted to European audiences that consists of eight live conversations which will discuss and reflect on the labour and processes of art with different participants.
The first of these conversations will be hosted by Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbao, Spain) on the 14th of February at 6.00 pm CET with the participation of Itziar Barrio, artist working in New York City, and Johanna Burton, Director and Curator of Education and Public Engagement at the New Museum.
During the conversation Itziar Barrio will discuss the artistic process that proceeds her work, while Johanna Burton will talk about the role of the person curating an exhibition. Moreover, both of them will respond to questions the audience gets to ask using the hashtag #TheWorkofArt. The session is organized within the framework of the exhibition Itziar Barrio / By all means, presented in Azkuna Zentroa from the 16th of February. Julia Morandeira, researcher and independent curator, will moderate and drive the conversation.
From February 2018 untill May 2020, all smARTplaces partners will host – in triennial frequency – one of these sessions, consisting of a Q&A simulcast on Facebook Live, where the public will be able to virtually attend and participate in connecting, interacting and discovering art professions and all what happens behind the scenes of art.
The aim of these dialogues is to offer online museum visitors not only the opportunity to know more about the cultural content the museum is offering, but also the processes and contexts behind them. It gives us the opportunity to share the creative processes, often covered by the final results, alongside the wide range of required knowledge, experiences, profiles and professions needed to carry out these activities: artists, curators, editors, designers, art handlers, art educators, sound technicians, etc.
The next edition of #TheWorkofArt will be hosted by Liechtenstein National Museum (Vaduz, Liechtenstein).
