Azkuna Zentroa – Alhóndiga Bilbao, Center of Society and Contemporary Culture of Bilbao, presents the piece FLICK_BI, by the artists Peter Weibel & Matthias Gommel of the ZKM, Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. From the 20th of December to the 27th of January, those who come to the Atrium may participate in this citizen photo gallery.
FLICK_BI is an interactive installation about self-portraits that invites the public to take a passport photo and become part of the exhibition. It works as a photo booth: with the insertion of a coin (€1), a photograph of the usual way is produced, which is reproduced in the Sun Screen of the Atrium of Cultures. Simultaneously, the images are uploaded to the website of www.zkm.de/flick_bi together with the thousands of portraits from previous exhibitions.
This installation allows you to see self-portraits in real space, in addition to digital. This virtual and dislocated space reflects the nature of social networks. The self-representation of people through selfies has begun to change human behavior in public spaces. Nowadays, any event encourages participants to take selfies, which can be distributed instantly to everyone.
FLICK_BI presages the role of selfies in the era of digital media.
This artistic proposal was born from the exhibition YOU_ser in 2007, curated by Peter Weibel, director of the ZKM, Center for Art and Technological Media of Karlsruhe, Germany. It invited visitors to be active participants, interpreters and artists of the exhibition.
Over time, the project has traveled to different European countries and has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions and museums with the participation of more than 100,000 people.
